Foreign Trade Policy

The New Five year Foreign Trade Policy, 2015-20 provides a framework for increasing exports of goods and services as well as generation of employment and increasing value addition in the country, in keeping with the “Make in India” vision of our Hon’ble Prime Minister. The Focus of the government is to support both the manufacturing and services sectors, with a special emphasis on improving the ease of doing business.

Country Rating by ECGC

ECGC Country Risk classification is one of the most relevant and appropriate indicator to understand the risk perception of a country.
ECGC has classified all the world countries into Seven groups which are being reviewed on quarterly basis or as and when any significant changes are taking place in a country.
The risk category is from ‘Insignificant’ to ‘High Risk’.

Drawback Rate

As its name sounds, Duty Drawback is like getting back the duty what the exporter has paid in India on purchase of inputs.
To make Indian goods competitive in the international market, the tax incidence felt by the export goods is refunded to the exporter by way of Duty Drawback.
Exporter shall provide his bank a/c. detail with IFSC Code to the customs before filing shipping bill for export. Drawback amount is directly credit to the exporter’s bank account; say after a month under NEFT system.

ITC (HS) Classifications

Schedule-1 (For Import of the goods) and Schedule-2 (Export of the goods) is to know whether your product is free, restricted or prohibited to Export or Import from/to India.
Like all other countries, India also has a police which governs the conditions for trade of each of the goods. Over 95% of the items are freely tradable.
Less than 4% have certain Restrictions and some others are entirely prohibited. Basically goods can fall in to one of the four buckets. 1) Free, 2) Restricted, 3) Canalized or 4) Prohibited.

Export Promotion Council

The basic objective of Export Promotion Councils is to promote and develop the exports of the country. Each Council is responsible for the promotion of a particular group of products, projects and services.
The main role of the EPCs is to project India's image abroad as a reliable supplier of high quality goods and services. In particular, the EPCs shall encourage and monitor the observance of international standards and specifications by exporters.
